Uninvited terror

The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir 3/5

A seemingly mundane trip through an exhausted, perhaps mad woman's daily routine turns into a confusing and twisted waking nightmare. After her sister's death, Iðunn is sleeping each night, or so she thinks. She wakes feeling tired with aching limbs. A new doctor, testing, and a pricey watch fail to bring her real answers but she does notice her steps. She is walking four times more than the average person, all while dozing. The distraction of a new male in her life only complicates things. Time off work doesn't help her piece together the puzzle of her midnight strolls either but she is definitely unraveling night by night.

This anxiety-filled, tension-building read will cause you to question the narrator, her motives, and the men in her life. The loss of a sibling is a heavy weight but is grief the anchor pulling her to the sea or is it mental illness? Exhaustion? Maybe even something otherworldly?

Give this one a read and bring your diagnosis for the mysterious ending it serves. I'm still not sure of it myself.
