Sugar will kill you
Sour Candy by Kealan Patrick Burke 4.8/5
A short romp and that would be my only complaint, through one man's hell. Kids are evil, right? Evil kids are creepy. Gage, Damien, and the entire herd from Children of the Corn are great examples of how scary they can be. They are supposed to be innocent, do as they are told, and never harm us. Candy is also meant to be fun, a treat.
Phil does not want kids. He enjoys life with his girl and after a lazy morning decides to go on a snack run to fuel their even lazier day. Once he arrives at the store he runs into what we all love in grocery stores. Someone else's kid having a meltdown. The thing is as he looks more closely, it seems to be the adult who is unraveling at the seams. After a brief interaction and a short drive, he is rear-ended into another life, one of fatherhood, imprisonment, and well candy.
I loved this story, the cover art, and the cosmic aspect. Give it a taste and never take treats from strangers.
